With a signature style thats ‘vibrant, light-hearted and feminine’ Marijke Buurlage’s illustrations are infused with inspiration from the natural world. Focusing predominantly on animals and botanicals, their influence is evident in her recurring uses of pattern, colour and shape.Starting life as ‘doodles’ her work combines hand drawn delicacy with the bolder elements of digital design, often resulting in a playfully haphazard yet confidently drawn jumble of people, objects, plants and animals.

After graduating from the Academy Minerva, Groningen in 2013, she now lives and works in the Netherlands as a full-time freelance illustrator. Working mainly on editorial illustrations for magazines, books and posters she also loves working on her self-initiated side-projects.
