Studio Rufus

posted by Hannah Dawson March 1, 2017

Time to rejoice as Studio Rufus is back, but is certainly not holding back! The return see’s founding father Jens Versprille burst back onto the graphic design scene, and is treating us to an eclectic and deconstructive mix of 15 inspired, celebrated and paid projects, displaying an array of techniques.

These projects, some of which are showcased in the images below with a mini description, give us an insight into the wonderful brain of Studio Rufus and its refusal to make compromises. ‘These pilot projects are sure to open the eyes and minds of Belgian graphic designers with a wink wink here and a nudge nudge there, providing an avalanche of inspiration.’

Back To The Future’ – is the finishing touch to the relaunch of Studio Rufus, and flaunts brand new business cards with 15 print techniques to celebrate the next 15 years.

The One I Like The Most’ – This work boasts a brilliantly bright colour palette and is a great example of Jens graphic design experience and credentials.

A Spacecake Odyssee’ – See’s a brand new identity created for spacecake served with fresh snacks by De Barbaren and Het Salon.

Business As Usual’ – Again, a branding project exploring the business card design and concept for companies that make Studio Rufus a teeny-weeny bit hot and bothered.

Lost ‘n Found’ – This project has been resolved with a photographic response. A collection of individual lost and found objects, hidden treasure and little surprises catalogued in solitary images.

Cycling & Scones’ – What runs more smoothly than a well-oiled bicycle chain? Studio Rufus has produced promotional material and collateral for Fietsberaad, Vélocien and the Museum of Fine Arts.

The Client Just Said Yes’ – An advertorial style design series which explores the idea of a ‘client that reacts with a holy ‘yes’ just seconds after you present a first, primal idea, expecting to be crucified (De Nachtshift).’

Praise The Lord’ – Described by Jens as a ‘completely confused identity crisis for Yot’, and parades another branding project produced by Studio Rufus for a specific client.

Fart’ – A great play on words, arty-farty publication project ‘Fart’ is filled with selected masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts and Friends of Smak.

The Client Just Said Yes Again’ – A continuation of the original inquiry, ‘The Client Just Said Yes’, which plays on the suggestion that a client says yes twice every fifteen years.

15 years since its original launch, Studio Rufus is still a big hit and labelled as the ‘first big love’ of founder Jens Versprille and was selected as Design Studio of The Year in Janjanbureh 2015. Jens is a Belgian graphic designer and specialises in the building, renovation and destruction of identities, plus he is also a founding member and responsible for multidisciplinary design studio De Barbaren (The Barbarians), who believe firmly in a no-nonsense approach aiming for short and one-to-one communication lines with their clients.

Jens describes himself as an art director, graphic designer, collector of weird objects and wildlife photographer and dedicates his spare time to teaching at Luca School of Arts and giving lectures on stuffed animals like any passionate animal activist.
