Ai Can’t Be Here T-Shirts

posted by Cara Bray January 9, 2015

Initiated by creative Zhao, a small collection of T-shirts have been created, aimed at raising awareness about the situation of controversial Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Since being detained for 81 days in 2011, the talented activist who is responsible for amazing installations such as the sunflower seeds that filled the Turbine Hall in the Tate Modern, has had his passport removed and is now not able to leave China at all. The Chinese character in the design ‘?’ sounds like Ai, but means love and is being sold throughout China to help support Weiwei’s campaign. An English version has also been made to be stocked internationally and hopefully will encourage others to back this political cause.
