Tom Pigeon — ‘Anstruther’

posted by Jade Connolly April 27, 2016

After working independently since the early 1990s, Tom Pigeon was founded by Pete and Kirsty Thomas in 2014. They began designing the simple things; prints, jewellery and stationery, as well as taking on creative commissions and consultancy work. Their creations have since been exhibited and sold work wide from their humble studio in the East of Fife, a traditional fishing village on the East coast of Scotland. Their work is both inspired by their surroundings, as well as being the kind of things that they would like to own.

‘Anstruther’ is an open edition signed A2 screen print, printed in Spearmint and Charcoal Grey using copper metallic foil on heavyweight 270gsm G.F Smith Colorplan bright white, ‘White Frost’ paper. This print series is a celebration of the character and geography of some of their local villages.

Their screen prints are hand-pulled using water based inks in a Glasgow print workshop and are then transferred to a separate studio in the North West of England to be traditionally foiled using a hot press. Tom Pigeon have mastered the simplicity of printing, selling their prints unframed, rolled in acid free tissue paper, and packed in a postal tube. There’s something heartwarming about receiving a Tom Pigeon print; it’s as if you’ve just received a letter in the post from a long-lost-friend.
