L’Empressee

L’Empressee is an online platform dedicated to the supporting of artists and collectors. The online gallery works in collaboration with a curated selection of artists, helping them with the production of their limited edition works, as well as the promotion and sales of their prints, customer relations, and shipping.

The gallery was founded by Julie Dodet, who having lived in London for almost a decade, moved back to France 3 years ago and started the dedicated art gallery in March 2020. Having studied Art History, and worked in museums ((Musee des beaux arts de Dijon), galleries (Galerie Maeght), and auction houses (Sotheby’s) throughout her career, Julie wanted to start her own agency after realising “how the people around me were afraid to buy art”. Whilst working at Galerie Maeght in 2005, Julie started collecting prints, fed up of seeing “the same posters bought from yellow corner or Ikea” in everyone’s homes. With experience in running a gallery and a passion for print, starting her own gallery was a natural next step.

Through L’Empressee, Julie hopes to promote the acquisition and collecting of art as an accessible and affordable hobby. Currently, she is working on building up a strong selection of artists, as well as organising events, exhibitions, and workshops, which she hopes to also develop in schools, showing children that art is available to all.

Current artists represented by L’Empressee include; Jef Aerosol, Fabienne Cresens, Lili Green, Audrey Keller, Fany Perret, Paillettes & Mimosa, Les Papiers Bleus, Waii Waii, and Yseult Yz Digan.
