Helena Pallarés

posted by Amber Weaver June 28, 2018

Our directory is a huge bank of established and independent artists, designers, brands, collectives and organisations all with incredible talents and ideas. Helena Pallarés, originally from the city of Saragossa, is trained in graphic design and the arts in Spain and the Czech Republic, before beginning her profession as a freelance illustrator in 2011. During her years at the Fine Arts School, she made imaginative oil paintings until she discovered the process of photomontage and began experimenting in collages, which occupied her entire attention.

Helena works a collage technique (both digital and handmade) to create oneiric images using papers, textures and clippings of magazines. Pallarés enjoys cutting various materials out and overlapping them, guided by the graphic realisation of an idea – a dream, a sentence, an abstract concept – either in the context of a spontaneous exercise or guided only by her own subjectivity. In addition to this, she also works on the subject of the portrait, using a particular way of collage which mixes handmade drawing and paper.

Helena creates illustrations of people related to culture and arts by drawing the main features of the character (eyes, nose, mouth, ears, etc.) and using cuttings of papers to complete the portrait. The result is a strong minimalist image in which prevails the colour and the simplicity of shapes.

No living in Paris, Helena has been working on graphic projects alongside the illustrations she takes on for various publishers and magazines around the world. Her work has been featured in magazines and newspapers internationally like Libération (France), The Washington Post (USA), Glamour (Spain), Psychologie Heute Magazine (Germany), Femme Majuscule (France), IKK Magazine (Switzerland), Piretti Editore (Italy) and Orfeu Negro (Portugal). Helena is represented in Germany by the illustration agency Marsha Heyer fuer Illustratoren and in America and UK by Anna Goodson Illustration Agency.
