Screenprint 2024 Exhibition

posted by POP Members January 11, 2024

Featuring work by 30 outstanding artists from around the UK and beyond, Screenprint 2024 is coming to Bristol’s Centrespace Gallery from 9th to 21st February.

The exhibition will showcase the art and craft of screenprinting. Whether you are new to the technique, or are already a screenprint fanatic, the exhibition is sure to make you an enthusiast by the time you leave. All featured work will be for sale, and as well as prints, there will be books, textiles, clothing, cards and lots more available.

Screen printing originated in China over a thousand years ago. Prints are made using stencils fixed on a screen stretched with a fine mesh that was originally made from silk, or even human hair. Over time, the method has developed to become a highly technical process, with many uses in industry. However many artists still make their prints by hand, using a squeegee to push the ink through the mesh. Screenprints are often recognisable for their use of vibrant colour and bold clean graphics, but the prints can also be subtle and complex. Screenprint 2024 exhibits works ranging from carefully crafted editions, to more experimental approaches and unique artworks that are closer to paintings or collages than prints.

The artists in the show have been brought together partly because they are amazing screen print artists, but also because of the very different things they do, so there should be something for everyone in the exhibition,” says the show’s organiser, Bristol artist Simon Tozer. He continues; “What l would like visitors to experience is the same thrill that the artist feels when they are in the print room, pulling the first print, lifting the screen and seeing their work for the first time.”

Featured artists include: Alice Irwin, Alice Pattullo, Andy Lovell, Angie Lewin, Anna Marrow, Ben Rider,  Carlos Hernandez, Charlotte Farmer, Chitra Merchant, Clare Curtis, Clare Halifax,  ottoGraphic, Eliza Southwood, Emma Studd, Emily Ketteringham, Emily Sutton, Gail Mason, Giuseppe D’innella, Jessie de Salis, John Dilnot, Jonathan Lawes, Jonny Hannah, Katy Binks, Kvist Studio, Laura Slater, Pirrip Press, Sarah Cliff, Simon Tozer, Stanley Donwood, Tom Frost, White Duck Editions, and YUK FUN.
