Love Rehab

posted by POP Members February 6, 2023

Love Rehab is the creative space and side hustle of artist and creative director Conny Bodemann, providing a space outside of her freelance work to show and sell her personal works. Created digitally, her illustrations are then given a stage as Risographs and screen prints, which come to life with a UV light that illuminates the print.

Describing herself as a “nature person”, Conny feels her best being out in the wild and with the elements. May it be diving, hiking, traveling with her camper van, or hiding in observing-shelters for ages, she always enjoys observing animals in their natural habitant. Conny loves taking macro photographs, getting lost in the details in the natural textures and camouflage. “The secrets and power of nature is my biggest inspiration. Maybe if I wouldn’t have become a communication designer, I might be a scientist or biologist,” comments the artist.

The routine for her artworks mostly starts with analogue techniques; collages, hand-drawn scribbles, and notes. Conny comments; “I love to add little stories to my creatures so that you might not be sure if they are real or fiction”. For the next step, her iPad Pro is used to explore more shapes and add textures; “It follows a level where I totally can forget time and space by playing around with digital drawing, textures, brushes and, of course, my Riso colour palettes and a blacklight torch”. Her final pieces always include an eye on fluorescent colours and a second hidden level of motifs.

Conny is currently working on an ocean series that shows, among other things, her “disco fish”; a nocturnal deep-sea creature that lights up to the beat and is reminiscent of a disco ball.

Looking to the future, Conny hopes to have the opportunity to exhibit and show her work. She tells us; “For me, who is rather shy about showing my work, this would be a big deal. I would also like to do a charity cooperation to promote conservation projects. For example, developing motifs together, the sale of which then serves a good cause. But my biggest dream is to do a pop-up black light exhibition.”
