Coxswain Press is a small letterpress printing and book arts studio located in Tacoma, WA. With a focus on limited edition art prints, greeting cards, hand printed textiles, and artist books, each item is thoughtfully crafted by hand. The studio’s founder, Taylor Cox, puts a focus on not only expertly crafting her work, but educating the public on how it is created and the rich history of the craft.
One of her print series is a collection of black and white botanical block prints started back in May of 2020 as the restlessness at the beginning of the pandemic was starting to set in. Taylor was taking lots of walks around her neighbourhood and admiring all of the natural beauty in the yards of her neighbours. The collection has now expanded to almost 15 prints, and Taylor keeps returning to the simplicity of the black and white colour scheme and the beautiful shapes of the flowers.
In these four new prints, Scottish Thistle, Tulips, Daffodils, and Lily of the Valley, Taylor has continued this series of hand carved linoleum block prints. Each print is letterpress printed on her vintage Vandercook printing press.
