Lol Gallimore: Ink Spill Riso Prints

posted by POP Members October 10, 2019

Graphic Designer and print-lover Lol Gallimore’s latest project explores fluidity and depth inspired by the patterns in oil spills. This three print series exemplifies the Netherlands based designer’s characteristic aesthetic of bright, vivid colours created through Riso printing with a playful and experimental twist.

Lol’s Ink Spill project comprises a series of three graphic prints in three different colour ways. Two of the prints use just two colours, but the third colour way is made up of three. Initially inspired by the beautiful and unique patterns created through oil spills, Lol aimed to create a sense of fluidity and movement in her prints using simple ink overlays with varying depth and contrast.

The series was produced using magenta, yellow and medium blue on a Risograph machine. Using two or three colours and three layers, Lol layered up the same colour twice in some areas in order to create more colour intensity.

Lol hopes to continue to experiment with Riso printing whilst building her career as a designer.
