Debby Peeters

posted by Robyn Pitts July 3, 2020

Graphic and illustrative designer, Debby Peeters, lives and works in a little Dutch town called Reuver. Since graduating as a Graphic Designer in 2005, her work has progressed to focus more and more on illustration. Her style is colourful and expressive, and animals are often her chosen subject.

Debby predominantly uses linocut printing to bring her digital iPad sketches to life, as this method of printmaking restricts her use of detail and colour. Most of the artist’s work consists of no more than two or three colours, which sometimes overlap in order to increase the colour palette. She is inspired by artists that also make use of a limited colour palette and minimal forms, such as Blexbolex, Floor Rieder, Hedof, and books published by Planeta Tangerina.

Having previously worked for clients including Flow Magazine, Leopold Publishing, Clavis Publishing, and Billy Bones Publishing, Debby hopes to become a full-time children’s book illustrator. In 2016, her first children’s book, Lieveheershondje (Ladybugdog), was published. The publication was about a teeny tiny black dog, which was inspired by her own little pet dog, Pixel.

A selection of linocuts, Riso prints, and accessories created by Debby are available now on Department Store, and are perfect for anyone who loves animals and nature just as much as she does.
