Darrel Perkins is an artist, educator, and writer from Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He received an MFA in Illustration from Edinburgh University in the UK, and he is currently a professor of Visual Communication at American University in Dubai. Darrel is a published author and illustrator, most recently the 2022 book The End is at Hand.

His relief prints feature intricate flowing patterns, carved and printed in bold contrast and a limited palette, often black and white. Subjects tend to depict the human form to portray a narrative scene, frequently with nautical, literary, or philosophical themes. While his technical mode of choice is the linocut, Darrel also works with drawing, painting, screen printing, and intaglio. To maintain a tactile and tangible aesthetic, all of his works are hand-made.

Darrel’s artwork has been exhibited in galleries around the world, and his commercial illustrations have been licensed for books, clothing, posters, editorial work, and mural painting. Locally, he organises workshops focusing on drawing, painting, and printmaking for a range of ages and experience levels.
