“The more I print, the more I start to see everything as a cohesive body of work, especially these river prints,” says Richmond (USA)-based printmaker Sophie Smith, aka Sophie Printmaking.
These images initially started out as photographs that Sophie took herself, then they were carved into linoleum and printed. At their final iteration they have been turned into two-colour screen printed posters.
The locations include some of her favourite spots on the river that is central to her hometown; ACL Railroad Bridge over the James River, Pipeline Walkway Trail next to Pipeline Rapids on James River, Richmond City Skyline over the James, and Tubers under the ACL Railroad Bridge.
Sophie works from her beautiful 10X10’ shed studio behind her family home in Richmond, VA. Having grown up in Richmond, she enjoys making art that celebrates the places within her hometown.
