Exmouth Market Letterpress by Jamie Clarke

posted by Anna Chayasatit February 26, 2014

To celebrate its 400-year history of Exmouth Market, legendary typographer Jamie Clarke, the co-founder of Thin Martian and curator of 8faces.com, has designed this magnificent letterpress to highlight the long history of this famous pedestrianised street, considered to be one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.

With artisanal food stalls run by local and well-known food producers, the market is famous for its al fresco lunch and has nestled in Clerkenwell since the 1890s. With an aim to preserve its identity and character, London-based designer Jamie Clarke has carried out a thorough research and studied its background stories in order to represent this dynamically evolving street market. This wonderful piece of artwork is created using typographic and ornamental elements inspired by the lettering and typographic details found on the street as well as its historical facts that include blood sports, a Victorian tea garden and a buried atrocious graveyard now situated under the adjacent park.

These limited edition prints are also available for purchase at £40. Please note that the free shipping ends in two days. Click here to see full details.
