Mikhail Lychkovskiy | Peter Bankov Poster School

posted by POP Members November 29, 2023

In the life of a designer, education is essential, and in the attempts of constant self-improvement, it is important to meet the very “own” teacher — the one who will help to reveal and strengthen one’s abilities. For graphic designer, Mikhail Lychjovskiy, the famous poster artist Peter Bankov became such a teacher. It was he who made him see the possibilities of improvised means in design in a new way (anything was used: shoelaces, plastic bags, glue gun lettering, broken toothpicks and paint, washing sponges, etc.) and helped to realise his craving for the French school of design, which complemented his already existing sympathies for the Swiss and German.

In two years, Mikhail has already attended 11 of his poster workshops, and has collected his creations made in these classes for us.

The workshops are usually held online in a group of 10-15 people, during which each designer must make as many posters as possible, relying on the capabilities of the tool and the artistic features of the works of national schools and individual masters. “It doesn’t matter if it was not possible to complete the poster in one approach — I still find such blanks months after the course and am happy to bring them to the finished stage,” says the designer. Sometimes it is posters made at Peter Bankov’s workshops that get to international festivals, and even receive awards.

Mikhail comments; “A special joy is communication with other participants of his workshops and watching their rapid growth. Some of them (i.e.: Yuliya Ratnikova) later also became members of People of Print!”
