Linomouse Prints

Cat Howatson-Jones is the maker behind Linomouse Prints. With a background in design, Cat only started practising linocut printmaking at the end of last year. The self-taught printmaker has a degree in Graphic Design, and creates her lino prints alongside her full time job as a designer for digital products.

Longing for a creative practice with a hands-on approach away from the screen she was spending her days on, lino carving provided an outlet for Cat’s burgeoning creativity. Lino printing thus became a huge part of Cat’s daily routine, and has also come to be a great mindfulness practice to help with everyday anxiety. She now works out of her home studio during evenings and weekends, using her bright orange Woodzilla printing press, an upgrade from the trusty wooden spoon she began printing with.

Cat is heavily inspired by the natural world and her worldwide travels. This is reflected in her prints which often feature leafy compositions, animals, and the aquatic, alongside playful stamp and pattern work.

Her latest project has involved exploring nature closer to home, taking inspiration from the plants in her own back garden. This bright, botanical series, has started with the echinacea plant, with plans to recreate more of her favourite flowers through lino carving. The printmaker hopes to stay immersed in the printmaking community, and keep experimenting and developing her print style, expanding the range of prints and products she can offer.
