Call for Submissions | SOUNDS GOOD: Portraits of People Enjoying Music at Home

posted by POP Members April 5, 2021

Drum Machine Editions are excited to announce a call to submit photos, selfies, and screenshots for their upcoming publication SOUNDS GOOD: Portraits of People Enjoying Music at Home.

The team are looking for images of people enjoying music at home, or wherever they’re spending the pandemic. You can make your image by any photographic means necessary: cellphone, DSLR, FaceTime photo, actual film, screenshot, etc. While professional photographers are welcome, this call is open to everyone (technically accomplished photographs will not be prioritised over vernacular photography and lower-tech methods).

Take a picture of your roommate dancing to Tom Tom Club, ask your grandma about Perry Como, then watch Human Highway. Stage a couple’s photo with your instrument. Sing “Wichita Lineman” during a Zoom call. Reconsider Bowie’s industrial period. Blast Crossings (1972) by Herbie Hancock and look at yourself in the mirror. Max Roach or Gene Krupa or Buddy Rich? New Sensations or Coney Island Baby?

Submissions will be juried by a panel of artists and musicians based in Asheville, NC, USA: Karie Reinertson & Rob Maddox (SHELTER COLLECTIVE); Wyatt Grant (Pool Holograph); Lex Turnbull (Seether Bookstore); Thom Nguyên (MANAS, Nest Egg, Sarah Louise).

Drum Machine Editions is an independent publisher and print shop in Asheville, NC, USA. The team are there to collaborate, pay artists for their labour, and build community through equitable and transparent publishing practices. All sales are split between the artists and publisher, and are publicly available at www.drummachineeditions.com.

Images must be from 2020-2021. Non-photographic submissions will not be considered.

The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2021, with no submission fees.
