Horizons by Angus Vasili

posted by POP Members April 24, 2024

Angus Vasili is bringing his unique fusion of screen printing, photography, and hand-finished collage to a solo show at Unlimited on Brighton’s seafront. Horizons is taking place as part of Brighton’s Artists Open Houses from May 4th-27th. The exhibition will showcase a collection of new collage and print artworks by the artist that take inspiration from urban decay. Recognised for his architecturally influenced, texturally layered, and abstract-infused silkscreen prints, Angus celebrates the aleatory nature of the printing process, allowing chance accidents in analogue techniques to bring about a raw and dynamic contemporary aesthetic.

Torn and layered posters and billboards form the main basis of Angus’ inspiration, which have further developed into abstracts that reference nature. The juxtaposition of finding a more traditional beauty from a non-traditional starting point of urban decay is the driving force behind his art.

Angus studied Graphic Design and Illustration in Liverpool, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for process-driven work. His practice is intuitive, continually evolving and informed by the process of experimentation. His work has come to reflect how we view neglected spaces in the urban landscape and the importance of finding the right balance between deconstruction and reconstruction. Angus’ work explores the conflict between the two, reflecting on the hidden beauty that can be found in decay. By literally ripping things apart he allows chance accidents in his analogue techniques to bring about spectacular visual instances, resulting in a raw and dynamic contemporary aesthetic.

Catch the show at the independent design studio, shop, and gallery, Unlimited, as part of Artists Open Houses from 4 – 27 May 2024. Private View Thursday 2nd May.
