Chantell Juanita | Proof of Anxiety

posted by POP Members December 13, 2022

Proof of Anxiety is a new publication from Montreal-based printmaker Chantell Juanita. She tells us; “My anxiety can be so overpowering it tends to take over my life. I wanted to make this project to try and showcase how sometimes anxiety makes you just want to hide from the world.”

Chantell lazer engraved the patterns of her skin onto plywood, and then made a book with photopolymer prints of things that she turns to when feeling like she wants to be alone with her anxiety. “There is still very much a stigma on mental illness in general and I like using my art to talk these things to bring awareness,” comments the printmaker. She continues; “Most of the time I make art when I feel deeply about what’s going on in my life and at this point my anxiety is at an all-time high.”

Chantell is currently studying print media at Concordia University in Montreal, where she focuses on creating art as a form of therapeutic expression. She mainly experiments with photobased print processes, screen printing, monoprinting, textile based works, book arts, cyanotype printing, and video art.
