Elise Florence Designs | Self Love: Mental Health Awareness

posted by POP Members February 2, 2021

Self Love is a new, limited edition print by linocut printmaker Elise Florence Designs. Lino-printed by hand using black ink, the piece was created with the goal of raising money to be donated towards UK Mental Health charities that support mental health awareness, suicide prevention, and support for vulnerable LGBTQA+.

“This project has been a goal of mine since I first began lino printing in late 2019, and it now seems pertinent with the continuation of Covid-19 and it’s strain on mental health to finally bring the idea to fruition. As someone who suffers and has suffered from certain mental health issues such as depression and disordered eating, I find the topic of mental health awareness to be an important one to address.”

The design was created by Elise using her own body as reference. “Despite my continuous struggles with my body image throughout my life, I found the design process overall to be somewhat therapeutic by attaching this concept of ‘Self Love’ and acceptance to the work, and subsequently my own body” says the printmaker.

While the creation of this work directly pertains to Elise’s own relationship with her body and mind, the intention behind it is to encourage the viewer to love every aspect of themselves, no matter where they are in their journey of recovery. “Mental health issues can be tough, alienating and sometimes a lifetime struggle, but every day that passes is another day to celebrate our strengths and is an accomplishment to be proud of. While it may be tough to love and look after oneself at times, it’s important to know we are not alone with these struggles.”

The print is available in a limited edition of 40. 20 prints on 160gsm handmade Lokta Paper, and 20 prints on handmade Marigold Petal Lokta Paper. 100% profits are donated to charity.
