Underway Studio: Printed Spaces East London Edition

posted by Amber Weaver April 16, 2019

Showcased until the 5th of June, Illustration and Printmaking collective Underway Studio present ‘Printed Spaces: East London Edition’, a fully screen printed show exploring the architecture of London’s cultural spaces. Based in Brixton South London, Underway Studio was founded in 2015 and began its journey with a collective work of collaborated design projects using silk-screen. Much of Underway Studio’s work is influenced by architecture, form, texture and colour all of which feature in the newest edition of printed works.

The edition’s subject matter this time takes the form of East London. From galleries to music venues, many of these structures have been repurposed over the years becoming part of the fabric that makes up our city. In recent times some of these spaces have come under threat from property developers and new laws and Underway Studio aims to show the importance of these venues today in adding to London’s cultural diversity and rich history. Combining both playful and distinctive aesthetics, Underway incorporate photography, collage and drawing embracing any happy accidents along the way.
