Barneby Fox

Self-taught illustrator, stamp carver and print maker, Barneby Fox, aka Simone Bryant, is based in the U.S., in a city just north of Atlanta, GA. After receiving a Business degree, she worked for corporate clients in branding and marketing for over 10 years, developing and delivering the design philosophy and consumer experience for many well-known brands.

Two years after having her twin boys (now three-years-old), Simone hit pause on her corporate life to spend more time with her family, which is when she discovered her love for block printing and linocut printmaking. Thus began Barneby Fox. In addition to hand-carved, hand-pressed prints and textiles, she also designs and produces greeting cards and Giclee prints.

Now, early mornings, nap times and late nights are spent designing, carving and hand printing orders from her home studio, that she sells in her online store and local boutiques. With a love for a pastel palette and ombre colour blends, Simone is inspired by the things she sees and talks about with her children; from more intricate botanicals and animals, to simple shapes. Rubber is her material of choice for carving, often taking commissions for custom, hand carved stamps.

A year ago, I had never even heard of block printing, and now it has become such a huge passion of mine. As someone who isn’t professionally trained in art or design, I have always had a knack for anything creative. I spend a lot of time practising carving, learning from other makers, and just jumping in to try new things. The radical transition from corporate life to stay-at-home mom, was hard, but I really feel like my story is about ‘Choosing Happy’, which is both terrifying and wonderful.www.barnebyfox.com
