The Gallery of Mallory

“I love to create, and I love to connect with others,” says Pittsburgh-based artist Mallory Sherman. It is through her art, that she combines these two passions. Mallory’s work experiments with bold colours and repeated patterns. Through a combination of paint and digital media, she creates a final work that tricks and intrigues the human eye.Currently a college student majoring in Marketing at the University of Pittsburgh, Mallory creates art in her free time from her studio apartment. Each of her works begins with painting (either on sketchbook paper or a canvas) with paint sticks. Once she is happy with the finished work, Mallory then photographs the painting. The image is then edited by mirroring and rotating the photograph to create a final work. This final image is then adjusted to fit an 8 x 8 size and printed as a square print.

Mallory finds inspiration in listening to music, looking at nature (and by taking nature walks), spending time with her friends and loved ones, and through the work of other artists. Cartoons, specifically the ones she used to watch as a child, influence her work as well; “I love the bold and outlandish style choices created in cartoons”. Mallory also finds inspiration from her favourite trinkets that decorate her desk. She tells us; “Each trinket has sentimental value to me and each is associated with a different memory. Everything on my desk makes me happy and smile because it reminds me of my friends and loved ones.”Mallory concludes; “I hope to show others that you can create anywhere- at a desk, in a studio, sitting at a table with friends- the possibilities are endless. I hope that when others view my work, they will be encouraged to express their own personal creativity through whatever outlet they choose.”
