Imo Crossland: Music Venue Trust Charity Print

posted by POP Members June 16, 2021

With a body of work that is visually bold, and a lively blend between real life and imagination, Manchester-based illustrator Imo Crossland creates colourful worlds that are irresistible to dive into. “Bold, colourful, loud, busy. I want to create work that feels alive. I try to make work that celebrates colour, joy and togetherness. It’s an ode to the good times,” says Imo. Her latest addition to her print portfolio is a charity print created to fundraise for Music Venue Trust, who support grassroots music venues at risk of permanent closure as a result of the pandemic.

The A3 print, created using Imo’s signature digital collage technique represents the things we’ve all been craving during the pandemic; people, fun, touch, connection, and crowds. “I’ve found over the past year I made work about what I was lacking, I was drawn to people dancing, enjoying each others company, living, it felt really cathartic. I realised people responded really well to this work, work about the more colourful times,” describes the illustrator. She continues; “If there’s one thing I’ve missed most over the last year, it has to be dancing in the middle of a crowd amongst a load of sweaty people. One of life’s greatest pleasures. (and I know most of my friends will agree).”  It was this that led Imo to create this print fundraising for Music Venue Trust in support of their campaign Save Our Venues.

Through fundraising for this campaign, the charity have prevented hundreds of grassroots music venues from permanent closure. Imo states; “There seems to be a lack of respect from the government for the cultural importance of UK nightclubs and live events, and the support for the sector has not been enough to keep them afloat. Without Music Venue Trust, so many amazing venues would not have survived the pandemic.”
