Marion Kamper is a commercial illustrator, artist, and linocut printer. After graduating in 2015 with a degree in Graphic and Communication Design in Austria, Marion went on to work as a full-time freelance illustrator. Over the years her work as a commercial illustrator has involved her collaborating closely with design studios, advertising agencies, freelance creatives, businesses, and private individuals. The fields of application of her illustrative work are very broad, including labels and infographics for food and beverages, corporate design elementsbooksmagazinespackaging of consumer goods, and murals

Her practise includes detailed illustrative studies of the animal and plant world which can be applied on wall art, pattern design, as corporate design elements, and various printed goods. Marion’s work is always handmade with a lot of attention to detail.

In addition to commissioned work for clients, she devotes every spare minute to independent paintings, illustrations, and prints. “In order to constantly evolve, I invest a lot of time in crafts – most recently linoprint on paper,” describes the artist. She continues; “Lino printing is a huge newfound love for me – it just clicked when I first came across some linoprints online only 2 years ago at the beginning of the pandemic.”

Marion’s inspiration comes from time spent in nature, working with old etchings and block prints, carved architectural ornaments, arts and crafts wallpapers, and textile design. Furthermore, she studies animal anatomy; be it historical drawings or object studies which she creates on observation in museums. Several of her artworks are also available as high quality art prints on her web shop.

Since recently moving to a bigger flat, Marion finally has the space for a proper lino printing area/studio, which is now home to a 50 cm ABIG roller press. Currently, she is experimenting with this new piece of equipment by working on a linoblock with both fine details and a large black area. She uses Pfeil and Flexcut tools for cutting, and mostly battleship grey standard or Japanese lino.

Marion’s latest print, Felicitas, was her first large-sale print; “I loved the whole process so much that I definitely plan on doing more larger linoprints in the future”
