Teresa Rego is an illustrator and designer based in Porto, working with brands on surface design, branding, murals, window installations, and interiors. She also conducts personal projects and products with a focus on collage and shape. Teresa graduated with a Masters in Architecture in 2014 from Guimarães, Portugal, and shortly after moved to London to study Illustration. She graduated from Camberwell College of arts, University of Arts London with an MA in Illustration in 2018.

“Manual techniques like collage are essential on the search for new shapes, textures, and compositions,” says Teresa. Sketchbooks help her to keep her ideas organised, as well as acting as catalogues of the progression of her work and language. “I believe I get a better outcome when I work mostly with manual techniques like collage, painting, and screen print,” comments the artist, however she also uses Photoshop from time to time as part of her image making process or for large scale work.

Teresa’s work is inspired by places that have a direct connection with the natural world, be that gardens, conservatories, green houses, or ruins. She describes; “The textures and shapes driven by nature and architecture are what most inspire my work. The contrasting shapes, the textures you observe from materials or plants, the way they are balanced in the real world is what affects my illustration representation”.

Looking to the future, Teresa hopes to continue to work on a diverse range of surface design brand collaborations and more large scale work. She’s also planning on hosting some events and workshops at her studio, bringing together not only the artistic community, but also people who want to learn something new.
