POP Member Showcase: 7 Giclee Prints

posted by POP Members August 16, 2021

This month we’re super stoked to present a selection of Giclee prints by the talented members of our community. Our members have used the digital printing method in exciting and innovative ways, bringing to life their illustrations and designs with a high-quality finish.

Stell: DROOL and Hensteethstore Abstract collage artist, Stell, mainly works with inspiration from nature and everyday life. To express the rich colour and detailed paper texture of her work, she often chooses the Giclee printing method. Recently, Stell has collaborated with DROOL and Hensteethstore to produce a series of Giclee art prints. The collaboration includes three limited editions of 100 works at Hensteethstore, and her ever-growing Paper Garden series at DROOL.

Jerome Curchod: McCadden Place – 2.9Based on elements gathered from another project (invitations for a playground themed dinner party), this Giclee print by L.A-based graphic designer Jerome Curchod was featured in the publication celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Abstract gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Chromakane: Life Before Life Before is a spiritual mudra piece expressing internal fire, energy, and strength, symbolised by a deep red sun amongst an abstract botanical landscape. As with all Chromakane prints, Life Before is a Giclée print reproduced to lightfast fine art quality, combining archival inks with uniquely textured FSC certified paper from the Hahnemühle FineArt range. The piece began as a pen and ink hand drawing before being cleaned up digitally. The print is a contemporary take on Eastern art forms, inspired by Buddhist symbols and Japanese irezumi.

Alexandra Ramirez: Spotify HQ  Two of Alexandra Ramirez’s illustrations, Bar at Home and Women, Flowers, Wine, were recently exhibited at Spotify HQ in London as part of a project run by Creative Debuts. Alexandra’s work usually levitates around joy, happiness, good moments, diversion, and inclusivity, utilising a bright and bold colour palette. Both pieces were printed 60×60 cm on Hahnemühle German Etching paper 310 gsm by Atom Printing in Hackney.

OOAK: Luke’s Lobster – Brooklyn NYC OOAK’s Luke’s Lobster Giclee print is based on an original photograph, which was vectorised and carefully coloured by Stephanie Nierstenhoefer, founder of OOAK. At one point, Stephanie had worked through 22 colour combinations, but settled on 2 versions: Lobster Red & Hipster Blue, and Blue & Rich Yellow. After seeking copyright from Luke’s Lobster, Portland, MA, Stephanie has released a limited print run of 100. Printed on Hahnemuhle German Etching 310 gsm paper, the paper structure gives this print a beautiful 3-dimensional effect.

Melissa Donne: Botanical Prints Melissa Donne’s new Giclee print collection was inspired by traditional botanical illustration, yet also has a contemporary and playful feel. A self-directed project, it was born out of a series of abstract floral designs and underpinned by a love of colour and pattern. Rich colour palettes and intricate textures are key features, and have been beautifully brought to life through the Giclee printing process. The paper used is Hahnemuhle German etching which has a natural white, uncoated finish and a fine texture that excellently highlights all the fine details. The collection consists of both A3 and A4 prints.

Anna Francis: Gold Embellished Prints As well as producing screen print monoprints, Anna Francis also makes limited edition and one off Giclee prints, with hand painted 23.5ct shell gold. Each piece is printed on slightly textured, heavyweight, professional quality paper (St Cuthbert’s Mill Somerset enhanced fine art paper) using pigment based inks. “I’ve had a lot of gold commissions over the past few years, it’s a nice way to made the print that little bit more special and unique. I love the medium of shell gold, it’s very similar to a tiny watercolour paint block and when you get the consistency just right it glides straight on to the paper,” says Anna.
