Off the Press Collective

Off the Press Collective (OTPC) is a small artist run screen printing studio based in sunny Suffolk. 5 years ago, 3 friends; Sam, Anna, and James, threw together a bunch of their favourite local artists, both up and coming and established, to celebrate film in their favourite indie cinema, and, voila, OTPC was born. The trio asked artists to submit a 2-colour alternative movie poster for them to screen print, splitting the small edition 50/50 with the artist. They have used this same model on all their projects ever since, keeping the prints fun, cohesive, accessible, affordable, and sustainable, while supporting local business and artists.

Founding member Sam is a graphic designer, photographer, and art handler. He makes beautifully thoughtful prints using type, photographs, intricate paper cuts, and found objects. He is also responsible for designing their website and branding.

Anna studied Surface Pattern Design, and prints stunning, intuitively layered textiles that transform into practical items for the home. She is also a trained art handler, traversing the UK installing exhibitions with Sam under the moniker of This Way Up.

James studied Fine Art Painting, but fell in love with the process of screen printing, spending the best part of 15 years sharing his love for print as the printmaking technician of a local art school. A sucker for nostalgia, James regularly drags childhood toys, films, and adventures up as inspiration for his prints, embracing the gorgeous flat colours and overlays that screen printing is renowned for.

With a rich mix of experience between them, together they offer exhibitions, workshops, and live printing within their local area. They work collaboratively with established artists, designers, graduates, and students to showcase some of the UK’s finest talent by creating a platform for the Eastern region. Striving to uphold their responsibility to the environment, OTPC use only Earth friendly, water based inks approved by the Soil Association.

The collective have recently been putting the finishing touches to their new studio, built to provide space to grow and offer up their equipment for the local community. Once the build is complete, they’ll be starting on an exciting new collaborative project, keep your eyes peeled!
