Under the Skin: Shining a Light on Extinction Exhibition

posted by POP Members February 7, 2020

Join brothers Ed and James Harrison, founders of creative entity Under The Skin, for their first solo exhibition from the 19th to the 26th February 2020 at ONCA Gallery, Brighton. The exhibition sees Under The Skin launch a series of short films alongside a selection of screen prints created by the duo. Shining a Light on Extinction encourages visitors to broaden their awareness of the current environmental issues facing our planet, and use the skills at their fingertips to become part of an urgent conversation. Working alongside over a dozen respected and global conservation charities and foundations, 20% of the proceeds from each print support the work of an organisation on the front line fighting for these endangered species.

Under the Skin combines the two brothers’ passions, and sees Ed’s illustrations of endangered animals screen printed in limited editions by James. Bringing together their own talents with other creative collaborators, Ed and James have created an interactive showcase of printmaking, illustration and film with urgent and important storytelling at its heart.

Hand printed on carbon neutral paper, the extremely limited edition screen printed artworks were created in aid of raising funds and awareness for animal charities dedicated to protecting endangered species. The duo are collaborating with a growing number of world renowned organisations which have included Sea Shepherd, RSPB, Global Wildlife Conservation, Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, Birdlife International, Pandas International and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, amongst numerous others.

Each print is a hand-crafted piece of art with a powerful underlying message. Under UV light, the phosphorescent skeleton of each animal is exposed, acting as a reminder of all that remains when a species falls into the darkness of extinction. Each print comes with a UV torch, maker’s booklet, charity card and printed media.

With the climate crisis becoming an increasingly prevalent conversation, the exhibition also sees the launch of their short film created by Luke Ripley and Max Smith. The film provides a unique insight into their creative process and the invaluable work that their artistic venture supports.

Discover the anatomy of some of the world’s most endangered animals through the series of unique screen prints and film. See you there!

19/02/2020 until 26/02/2020 at ONCA Gallery, Brighton.
