Alice Lazarus is a multidisciplinary designer and artist based in London. Since graduating two years ago in Fine Art Painting from Edinburgh College of Art she has worked in both art and design studios to develop and make work with a range of creatives.
At university Alice focused on printmaking and sculpture, using techniques including etching, stone lithography, casting and 3D printing. This led to a series of works inspired by the ancient ruins of the Ziggurat and the desert landscape. However, without easy access to printmaking facilities and the pressures of working, it was an artist residency at Dumfries House that reignited her studio practice. This led Alice to relief printing. Learning a new method of printmaking enabled her to focus on the process and accept the mistakes that came with it. This allowed Alice to combine her love of creating objects, such as carving wooden blocks, whilst also making prints.
Alice’s studio work is inspired by architecture, archaeology and landscape design taking inspiration from artists such as Isamu Noguchi and Eduardo Chillida. Since working in design, her work has developed to combine digital processes with more traditional printing techniques. This includes 3D design, visual displays and interactive experiences, enabling her to develop multiple styles of working, and ultimately changing the way she approaches her studio work adding a more playful twist.
In the future Alice hopes to run her own studio practice working across art direction and spatial design. She is passionate about combining digital and analogue techniques to create her work and make use of both print and 3D design.
