Wild & Kind

Wild & Kind is a women-led, ethical garment printing, drop-shipping fulfilment and creative studio based in Glasgow, Scotland. They offer a Risograph printing and embroidery service, and work only with 100% organic cotton or recycled items, with the aim to create as little waste as possible with what they do. They are also are in the process of launching an eco-friendly screen printing service. Wild & Kind rent out desks to other creatives and provide access to all of their printmaking equipment, as well as running creative free workshops.

Wild & Kind was founded by Trudi after she found success running a small embroidery studio and free pop-up craft workshops. She soon realised that the people who were attending were largely people like herself and her friends who were lonely and looking for social situations that were not just going out and drinking. Thus, Trudi put a plan in place to set up a company that would generate some form of income and allow her to run these workshops more regularly. Her next step was investing in a DTG printer to offer an ethical garment printing service, the profits of which would essentially fund these workshops and any other social activities which could have a positive impact. Just over a year later Rachel joined the team and they moved to a bigger space and opened their own creative studio. This allowed the duo to broaden the services that they offer, whilst simultaneously providing income to offer subsidised spaces for artists who otherwise may struggle to have a space within the community. Their main purpose for getting a larger studio was to have a place to safely run their workshops. Although Covid has put these workshops on hold, Wild & Kind are still supporting people by offering free membership options and passes to equipment to help people start or maintain their creative practice to generate income.

“We try and do favours where we can for people who are struggling or people from marginalised groups. We’re always open to figuring out how to help people out if and when we can. All of this, and to be honest lots of non-stop grafting for years to become sustainable, has got us to the point we are now at.”

Their ethos behind the studio is to empower people and tackle loneliness. Rachel states; “It’s driven by all the amazing artists and illustrators that we meet that are relatively unknown and need support and we want to give a platform to. We wanted to create a space where people genuinely feel happy and comfortable in and get excited about going to everyday because it’s not only a social space to work, but they also get treated like equals. We want it to always feel like a home away from home“.

Wild & Kind’s studio currently houses a Dual Drum Risograph Printer, 10 colour ink drums (Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Teal, Brown, Purple, Fluro Pink and Fluro Orange), a Brother GT-3 DTG printer, as well as a photography space with background drops and professional ring light.

Going forward, the studio hope to widen the range of equipment and resources that they have available to artists in order to generate as many opportunities for makers and creatives as possible, with the ultimate aim of expanding and opening another studio elsewhere.
