Fleur Ellis – The Girl Who Makes Books

posted by POP Members August 16, 2018

Originating from Wales with a passion for all things printed is designer and new People of Print Member Fleur Ellis. Making and designing printed matter is something Ellis is especially passionate about, the craft and physicality of it being particularly important to her. The excitement comes from testing how a box will open or how paper will fold, exploring the endless different channels of possibilities of print.

Ellis’ strengths include publication and editorial design. Strong concepts with elegant solutions are at the centre of Ellis’ ethos and are vital when creating beautiful work. Having recently finished a contract at Adidas headquarters in Germany, Ellis has decided to branch out on her own to design books, portfolios and printed matter for clients.

A rememberable moment for Ellis was when she applied for the Susan Cotton travel awards and won a bursary to travel to Australia, Samoa and New Zealand. It was through this experience she realised how impactful the combination of travel and design could be. It was after this that she completed a Graphic Design Internship at Adidas, in the main headquarters, over in Germany. Adidas have set up a beautiful space called the Maker Lab, where creatives can handcraft their designs and partake in workshops. It was here that Ellis was offered the opportunity to run her own bookbinding workshop and it was safe to say she fell in love with the experience and is now beginning to run workshops back in the UK.
