Lol Gallimore: Trio

Trio is a Risograph printed book, consisting of 10 pages of the same three Riso colours; fluorescent pink, medium blue, and yellow, in various colour combinations. The publication was designed, printed, and hand-bound by Amsterdam-based graphic designer, Lol Gallimore, in a very limited edition of 5. Lol’s works typically explores vibrant colours with an experimental and playful nature.

She was inspired to create the book after looking at the limited amount of Riso colours available, prompting her to investigate how many variations she could make from just three colours, influenced by the CMYK palette. Through the process of making Trio, Lol also investigated how simply subtracting one colour from the three completely changed the overall vibe and impression of the print. All three colours together are extremely punchy and vivid, but take away the magenta, and the blue and yellow alone is dreamy and calming, and the yellow and pink blend together to look tropical and fruity.

“I love making prints for people to hang on their walls, but I wanted to make something that was a little more archival; a burst of colour to flick through and look at up close” describes Lol on the project. The book format allows one to enjoy the small details and quirks of Risograph printing, that would would perhaps be missed when glancing at a framed piece on a wall.
