Posterzine Issue 76 | FontPeople

posted by Robyn Pitts January 14, 2022

Our latest issue of Posterzine not only showcases the incredible type foundry FontPeople, but also launches a custom font for Grafik Media Ltd. The typeface, named GRAFIK BLACK, is a headline font designed to reflect the strong-willed and independent nature of Grafik Media. The font was produced to help fund the relaunch of Grafik magazine; a bi-monthly publication featuring the world’s leading graphic design and visual culture.

To create the Grafik typeface, Posterzine teamed up with FontPeople — the world’s first full-service independent type foundry. In just two years, FontPeople have grown from concept to a foundry with a 20-strong font library. Inside this incredible issue founder, Jason Harcombe, talks through the thinking behind Grafik Black, his quest for simplicity, and how his foundry is democratising type.

Grafik was founded in 2003 and became one of the most popular design magazines in print, but sadly ran its last issue in 2011. With the help of the global design community, we’re working alongside Grafik Media Ltd to bring Grafik back as a printed publication.

Posterzine is People of Print’s monthly publishing project that takes the form of a mini-magazine which folds out into an A1 format poster (594x841mm). Issue 76 was printed by Pressision Ltd using CMYK onto quality G.F Smith paper.
