Jazmine Joye Prints

posted by POP Members August 31, 2020

London-based printmaker Jazmine Joye creates limited edition, handmade and hand pressed linocut prints from her home studio. Her work is inspired by the female form, human hands, animals, and plants. Jazmine often creates sets of ‘mini prints’ that feature the same subject in a different design, such as her nude series that is inspired by the shapes and colours of Matisse. Through her work, she wants to make people feel confident and proud in their own skin, and she aims to represent all body types through her various abstracted nude prints.

Whilst she is passionate about nudes as a subject matter, Jazmine also designs larger-scale prints inspired by Japanese culture and design, such as ramen, tigers, and dragons. However, she still maintains a feminine tone throughout. Although her subjects differ, her style remains consistent; focusing on block colours and simple line work to create art to hang on walls, or give as a gift. She thrives on knowing that each hand pressed piece looks slightly different from the next, making them truly unique.

Having studied graphic design at University, Jazmine is mainly self-taught in linocut printing, but has an informed creative background. She set up her studio properly during lockdown in March 2020, and hasn’t looked back since. Her work usually begins as an idea in her mind which is then designed on illustrator, before being traced and carved out of lino, and eventually hand pressed using a Baren.
