Vivienne Piethe | Unveiling the Mysteries of the Ocean and Beyond

With her latest collection of prints, artist Vivienne Piethe explores her deep connection to the sea, and takes us on an enchanting journey through her world of art. Vivienne’s creations are not just prints; they are windows into a realm where the ocean meets the cosmos, and where love for the sea intertwines with artistic inspiration.

One of Vivienne’s latest endeavours is the incorporation of luminescent pigments into her artwork, adding a touch of magic and mesmeric quality to her linocuts. Blending these pigments with linoleum ink is no small feat, but her dedication and love for experimenting with colour gradients breathes life into her prints, making them appear almost three-dimensional.

Vivienne’s creative process is a fascinating evolution. Her ideas often start as fleeting inspirations, not fully formed but brimming with potential. Slowly but surely, these nascent concepts take shape, and she translates them onto linoleum sheets using transparent paper as her guide. The meticulous carving process begins, a testament to her patience and precision.

One of her standout creations is the Seaheart. This artwork encapsulates Vivienne’s profound love for the sea. Her heart lies submerged on the ocean floor, embraced by marine flora and fauna, completely enmeshed in the vibrant coral and aquatic plants. This piece symbolises Vivienne’s unwavering affection for the ocean’s mysteries, rendering a poignant message: her heart belongs to the sea.

In her Whale in the Galaxsea print, Vivienne delves into the intriguing concept of unity. The title cleverly combines “galaxy” and “sea,” emphasising the interconnection of all living beings. Marine creatures appear to swim amidst the stars, blurring the boundaries between the celestial and the aquatic. It’s a testament to the idea that everything is interconnected, a theme that runs through much of her work.

Vivienne continues to expand her horizons. Currently, she’s working on creating small, holiday-themed prints that seamlessly blend with her distinctive style.
