Emulsion Issue 2

posted by Robyn Pitts January 8, 2020

Back even bigger and braver, independent magazine, Emulsion, have returned for their second issue. An exciting mix of progressive art and culture from around the world, the mag presents a range of diverse and innovative talent and features artist collaborations, interviews, photography, fashion, music, original artworks and opinions. The DIY, artist-led magazine is a winding trail into the underground world of art and culture. With a focus on hybridised and multi-disciplinary creatives, issue two presents a new mixture of emerging and established artists side by side to reveal a more complete image of the creative world we live in, challenging the hierarchical society we live in.

From a revelatory voyage with musician Varg2™ on the outskirts of Copenhagen, to an in-depth interview with iconic painter and photographer Marilyn Minter; Emulsion allies with those who fight convention and make waves across the arts. “A big focus for this issue was to blow open our process to the contributors, allowing their voices to guide the direction of their own features. This creative collaboration has delivered original results, notably in the Varg2™ submission, a poetic, photographic discourse between the artist and the magazine. This collectivism epitomises what we set out to do with Emulsion – a new publication by, with and for artists” explain the mag’s founders Louis Morlet and Michael Opie O’Grady.

The 208 page mag was designed by East London based design studio, Our Place, who produced the magazine in close collaboration with the founders. Emulsion is dedicated to providing a platform for dynamic discussion, creative expression and diversity within the arts. As well as representing more established names, they are also committed to giving a voice to young emerging artists. Emulsion’s prime focus is to celebrate a mix of creative people that collaborate and work across multiple disciplines.
