Colour Black | Climate Prints

Colour Black is the brand name of Dan Lacey; an advertising art director and screen print artist. After studying an Art and Design foundation, Graphic Design at uni, and a post graduate advertising course, in 2017 Dan partook in a screen printing course at City Lit in Holborn under the lead of Ben Ryder; a printer at Print Club London. Today, Dan prints at Print Club in his spare time as a side hustle.

His inspiration is quite broad; a big fan of Banksy’s screen prints, Shepherd Fairy (“obviously”), book covers, Bauhaus, beer mats, brutalist architecture, russian avant-garde, and everything in between.

Dan mainly prints posters but has recently starting exploring printing on fabric too. He states; “I like to play with how people interact and play with prints (see ‘parking print’ and ‘you nosey c**t’ on my site – it’s fun to see people’s reactions when they lean in to read the tiny type!). I generally try not to take life too seriously, and that definitely comes across in my prints. They’re minimalist, fun, and very black.”

Dan’s most recent print series make a statement, raising awareness of climate concerns. As well as being aesthetically appealing, FIREBERG and FUTURE PENGUIN were created with money from each print going towards fighting climate change with WWF and Greenpeace.

The two pieces were printed at Print Club London in East London. Each print is a CMYK 4 layer screen print in an edition of 100, numbered and signed.
