The latest linocut print from Italy-based printmaker Nadia Resta features Artemisia Gentileschi, an Italian painter born in 1593, on a vase filled with Japanese peonies.
In Japanese culture peonies are bearer of good luck, and Nadia situates this imagery alongside a vase shape inspired by traditional Chinese pottery. This piece is typical of Nadia’s aesthetic which combines influences from various cultures, reflecting her own personal experiences and her travels.
“What happens when you mix different cultures? Coexistence of cultures has always led to extraordinary art. My linocut prints want to generate this reflection, what happens when you mix different cultures? How can coexistence of different aesthetics generate an extraordinary art?”
