New People of Print Member BEAST Studio based in Malmö, Sweden, has been run by Robert Lindblom and Li Lindblom since 2013. This creative pair are two graphic designers and print enthusiasts who combine traditional graphic design work by offering affordable risograph printing to illustrators, designers, comic artists, musicians and other like-minded creatives. In addition, they also produce their own line of posters, notebooks and other printed matter along with hosting workshops where people get an introduction to the Risograph as a printing technique.

The studio formed as a way for the pair to figure out what to do after quitting their respective corporate jobs they both got after graduating from design school. They had read articles about riso printing and were excited to try it, and when they found an old one for sale they couldn’t resist buying it. To begin with, this was just to print a little on the side of their freelance graphic design work. Upon realizing that the printer weighs over 100 kilos, and not having an elevator their our house, they decided to start a business around it. Both Robert and Li tells us how they “love working so close to the process and steadily gained a following among the local arts and design community.”

The pair views BEAST Studio as a way for them being able to explore any creative endeavour they’re interested in at any given moment, and their days can look very different from one another. One day they might do straightforward graphic design work, another riso printing art zines, posters or record covers, yet another they’re editing music videos or researching plant-based textile dyes or ceramics. This variety of tasks are what they were missing at our old jobs all those years ago, and are excited to keep on exploring.
